The robot can open doors, handle trays and drinks and comes equipped with cameras in its three-fingered hands. The robot is designed in mind to be a suitable caretakers for the elderly.

Somehow I have doubts about this robot. What if it goes berserk and start attacking those poor defenseless old folks instead?

This cute robot is called ApriPoko [アプリポコ] and it just sits in your living room until you start using a remote.

Once it detects the infrared signals from the remote, it will ask you “What did you just turn on?”.

Through this simple learning process with the user, the robot will remember the the various infrared signals for each device.

After that the next time you want to turn on the TV, all you need to do is tell ApriPoko to do so.

All I can say is the couch potato just got even lazier. We don’t even need to move our fingers now once we get hold of this robot.

Toshiba made its announcement after Wal-Mart announced it would no longer carry HD-DVD stuff. That means SONY’s Blu-Ray emerges as the victor in this format war between the 2 Japanese electronics giant.

But then I really like what wired.com has to say about this:

This leaves Blu-Ray as the presumptive victor in the irrelevant optical disk format war. It now must face up to the real competition: the continuing success of DVD and the growing popularity of downloads, both on the internet and on-demand cable TV.
