One Piece has been setting awesome record sales with the release of each new volume (Vol 61-64) throughout this year, and hence its not surprising that One Piece refreshed its benchmark for most copies of manga sold within a year.

For the period between 22 Nov 2010 till 20 Nov 2011, One Piece has sold an impressive sales record of 37,996,373 volumes, about 5 million more copies when compared to last year’s record.

As for the rest, Naruto was ranked 2nd this year with 6,874,840 copies sold, and Ao no Exorcist ranked third with 5,223,712 copies sold.

We are nearing the end of the year and its time to read the report cards of all the artists. Considering that AKB48 managed to capture all the top five spots for this year’s top selling single, its hard to imagine anyone else that could win the title of top grossing group in terms of total sales.

Oricon totalled the sales from all CDs (singles & albums), DVDs and Blu-Ray and here are the top grossing artist for 2011:

AKB48: 16,282 million yen

Arashi (嵐): 15,369 million yen

EXILE: 5,603 million yen

KARA: 4,926 million yen

SNSD (少女時代): 4,049 million yen

Its quite interesting that two female korean pop group has managed to capture the top charts as well. Based on the rankings, it seems like Japan still love their female pop band more than the boy bands.

Almost every month we will get to see few new commercials featuring members from the popular idol group AKB48, and I’ve also featured some of these CM from time to time. Oricon has compiled the ranking of celebrities which were employed to endorse products of different companies and amazingly Oshima Yuko has TV endorsements from 19 different companies between 1 Jan 2011 till 30 Nov 2011.

Even the most popular child star Ashida Mana which is making headlines so often has only managed to secure endorsements from 15 companies, and is ranked 4th.
