During the lunar seventh month, many Chinese like myself in Asia celebrate the Ghost Month and we pay homage to our deceased ancestors. For the Japanese, they have similar traditions and one of them is called the Mitama Matsuri 御霊まつり – a mid-summer celebration of the spirits of the ancestors that is held at Yasukuni Shrine (靖国神社). For Today’s Japan Photo, we will take a look at the beautiful lanterns that are hung along the 40 foot high walls along the entry walk.

So many lanterns hung so neatly is really a sight to behold. I wonder what are the fire safety precautions in case one catches on fire ^^

Photo Kano (フォトカノ), literally Photo Girlfriend, is an upcoming love simulation game by Kadokawa for the PSP console. The game differs from the typical love simulation game with a unique photography theme, so that gamers can take photos of their “girlfriends” as the story progresses.

Just like any love simulation, the game has a variety of different characters that fits your love interest from the childhood friend to the sporty athletic and the all-rounder class leader. While taking photos in camera mode, you can even turn your PSP around to take photos in vertically.

The game also includes a Nendoroid Puchi of one of the girls, Kanon, so its a win-win for figure collectors. I’m gonna ask my local distributor if they are able to bring in this game XD

The garden was originally called Koen (“later garden”) because it was built after Okayama Castle. However, since the garden was built in the spirit of “sen-yu-koraku” (“grieve earlier than others, enjoy later than others”), the name was changed to Korakuen in 1871.

Dear readers, this coming weekend is the much anticipated AFAX – Anime Festival Asia, which will be taking place at the Suntec Convention Center. For those that are still unaware, I’m tasked by the organisers to conduct a short 45 minutes sharing on figurine photography on Saturday at the mini-stage area (hope everyone will come down to support me).

In order to prepare my slides and the presentation script, I’ve decided to take a short hiatus till Friday. While I anticipate that I would have little time left to make any updates on this site, I would still post updates if I managed to find the time.

But don’t worry because I will resume coverage of the event starting from Friday, where I will be at the press conference of AFAX.

In the meantime, do enjoy this awesome song by AKB48: Heavy Rotation ヘビーローテーション. Its the best thing I could think of to keep you folks occupied XD

This is probably one of the best photo of a waterfall that I’ve featured so far. The water just seems so soft and inviting that I would love to take a dip under that cold running water.

I’m quite sure it must be difficult to be camping on the cold mountain summit trying to capture those images. So kudos to the man for bringing us so beautiful footages of Japan.
