Most folks who purchase happy meals from McDonalds usually leave happily (sorry for the pun). But this 35 year old man in Fukuoka Prefectural was unhappy that the staff forgot to include the toy for his happy meal, and he lodged a complain with the store manager.

In the end, the staff had to head over to the man’s house then next day to express his apology. However two days later, the same staff took a blanket soaked with kerosene and set the man’s car on fire, burning it to a complete piece of charcoal.

When asked why he did it, the McDonald staff replied: ”I didn’t want him to report to my boss about the trouble. I thought If I set fire, he would be concerned with it and forget about my trouble.”

The moral of the story is to be kind to the person behind the counter at any fast food restaurant. You might end up getting more than what you ordered.

McDonalds Japan have launched this campaign between 24 July till 30 Jul 2009, where the first 100,000 customs get coffee for free! (According to JapanProbe, the offer appears to be limited to stores in Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba, Gunma, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures.)

I’m not a big fan of the coffee at McDonalds, I always thought it tasted like something that came out of the drain but they still termed it as “Gourmet Coffee”.

Anyway I think this kind of promotion would only work in Japan because if they had it in Singapore, folks would just head in for their free coffee without buying anything at all ^^

The pinkish promotion was part of the campaign to promote the Quarter Pounder in Japan. The store even sells the pink rose shirt that you see wrapped around those fries.

Its pretty cool to see a pink McDonalds, quite a different sight from the usual bright red. But then again, it looks like Hello Kitty just invaded the joint.

Starting this Friday 19 June 2009, Nintendo and McDonalds Japan will be rolling a new Nintendo DS wireless service for their customers.

McDonalds Japan is busted for hiring 1,000 to join the queue outside the Midosuji-Suomachi branch of McDonald’s for the release of their Quarter Pounder burger in the Kansai area on Tuesday.

While the admit to the hiring of those 1,000 people, McDonalds Japan still claimed that they were hired through one of their marketing companies, which they had told to gather consumer feedback.

Their spokesperson said:

We didn’t ask the company to make the people line up. We didn’t intentionally do it.

Around 15,000 people in total visited the store during the day, setting a new record for daily sales for one of their stores.

This explains why people started queing up since midnight outside that McDonalds outlet. Well its still an awesome viral marketing campaign.
