AKB48 will be releasing a new photobook on 20 Dec 2011 and it will be a special treat for all those fans who love girls that wear glasses.

The photobook is titled “AKB48 Twenty-Four Hours” and will feature 16 members wearing glasses from morning to evening (and hence 24 hours). Members selected to be featured in the photobook include:

Atsuko Maeda, Yuko Oshima, Yuki Kashiwagi, Mariko Shinoda, Mayu Watanabe, Haruna Kojima, Minami Takahashi, Tomomi Itano, Rino Sashihara, Sae Miyazawa, Aki Takagi, Rie Kitahara, Minami Minegishi, Tomomi Kasai, Yui Yokoyama, and Miori Ichikawa

This will definitely make an awesome Christmas gift for any AKB48 fan. But you don’t need to get me a copy because I intend to grab at least two copies for myself XD

Last Tuesday, the 24th Megane Best Dresser Awards was handed out and popular idol group AKB48 was awarded a prize in the special category where most people wanted to see them wearing glasses.

Seven members attended the award ceremony as “Megane Senbatsu” members to receive the award. The members were (from left to right): Yokayama Yui, Kitahara Rie, Akimoto Sayaka, Itano Tomomi, Watanabe Mayu, Fujie Reina and Miyazawa Sae. Kasai Tomomi was originally part of the group but had to pull out as she was recently diagnosed with peritonitis.

Other winners for his year included Tsuchiya Anna in the sunglasses category, former Fuji TV announcer Takashima Aya in the culture category, actor Mizutani Yutaka in the entertainment category, and pro soccer play Miura Kazuyoshi in the sports category.

Interestingly, AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi had also received the Megane Best Dresser Award back in 2001 in the culture category.

So who do you think looked best with glasses amongst the Megane Senbatsu? Undoubtedly I would choose Tomochin!! XD

1 Oct is a special day for those wearing glasses because the associations affiliated with eyewear has designated it as “Glasses Day (メガネの日)”. To coincide with this special day, Oricon conducted a poll with teenagers and adults and asked which celebrities look good wearing glasses.

Actor Yashima Norito (八嶋智人) and singer Angela Aki (アンジェラ・アキ) were respectively voted as best looking celebrity with glasses in the male and female category.

I find it quite interesting that glasses which were originally meant for vision correction has become popular as a fashion item. I’ve seen quite a number of folks that wear glasses with simply the frame and no lenses. Meanwhile, here’s a song from Angela Aki that I shall dedicate to all the folks wearing glasses ^^

There will be two pairs of glasses to be released in Aug 2011. The Date model (on the left below) is imprinted with the image of the character’s in-game weapon (the six-bladed “Claws of the Dragon”) on the right temple arm, which also has a metal version of Date’s trademark crescent moon symbol on its tip. The Sanada model (on the right below) has his dual cross spears imprinted on the right temple arm, along with a metal family crest on its tip.

The glasses will cost 3,150 yen each and both pairs ship with non-prescription lenses, but Zoff stores can replace them with prescription lenses. Both also come with cases imprinted with the character’s name and lens-cleaning cloth imprinted with their respective symbols.

I’m quite a big fan of black glasses nowadays and I think Sanada’s model does look rather nice. Wonder if my neighbourhood store will carry them ^^

On the inside of the Mejikara there are specially-designed ridges which massage and help your skin. It puts gentle pressure on the skin and pushes those sagging eyes back up to where they once were!

I think another much simpler method would be to purchase a pair of really tight goggles and wear them over your face. They must be so tight that your eyeballs feels like they are gonna pop out. ^^

This just gives me the creeps. I hope we won’t start seeing news reports of pervert men stealing young girl’s pantsu to clean their glasses. Or maybe that was the reason why the guy was busted for stealing 300 pieces of pantsu back in Feburary.

Presenting the models and actresses with some little info from whatever I know about them.

First up is Maki Horikita (堀北真希), some of you may remember as Teppan Shoujo Akane. I think I first saw her on TV in her role in Densha Otoko. She just recently made her seiyuu debut in the Doraemon movie.

Yasu Megumi (堀北真希) is an actress and I’ve only seen her act in is Koshonin, which just finished airing in Japan. But I’ve seen from previously photobook that she has an awesome body.

Kaho (夏帆) looks the best in this photobook with her glasses. She is a Japanese U-15 idol and actress. I think the reason why she looks so good with glasses on is because she wears them in real life too when off camera.

Risa Kudo (工藤里紗) is a gravure idol and I’ve actually featured featured her in my gravure blog posting once.

Miho Yoshioka (吉岡美穂) is an actress, model and former racequeen. She was a former “Race Queen of the Year”.

Ono Mayumi (小野真弓) is an actress that I also have little idea about.

Morishita Chisato (森下千里) is a gravure idol, actress, singer, and former race queen. She used to have losta photo shots with racing theme and she simply looked gorgeous in them. She was also a winner of “Race Queen of the Year” contest.

Komukai Minako (小向美奈子) is an actress.

Hamada Shouko (浜田翔子) is a gravure idol, actress, and race queen. She has been compared more than once to fellow gravure idol Nakagawa Shouko, because they share the same first name and they are said to look alike.

Chinatsu Watatsuki (若槻千夏) is another gravure idol, didn’t really come across her before.

Karina (香里奈) a model and actress.

I think this photobook is disappointing compared to the first photobook which had featured some of my favorite gravure idols such as Aki Hoshino and Yuko Ogura. Hopeully they will continue to publish another photobook.

Aki Hoshino (ほしの あき), she’s definitely on the top of my list amongst the gravure idols. She’s turned 30 recently but she’s still looks young and uber hot! She just recently went on Akiko Wada’s Private Lesson II to teach about how to continue being a gravure idol at her age.

Katou Rosa (加藤ローサ) is an actress and she’s rather well know for her performance in Dance Drill which won her Best Newcomer for Japan’s 50th Television Drama Academy Awards.

Yuko Ogura (小倉優子­), I think that many would know who she is. She’s rather popular especially with her kawaii innocent schoolgirl look. Anime fans might know her from School Rumble first Ending theme.

Manami Konishi (小西真奈美) is an actress. I don’t know much about her except that I saw her in Water Boys 2005 Natsu.

Yuu Aoi (蒼井優) is also an actress. She starred as Hagumi Hanamoto in the live action movie of Honey and Clover and also Tanyu in the live action movie of Mushishi.

Juri Ueno (上野樹里) a Japanese actress that starred in Swing Girls.

Haruka Ayase (綾瀬はるか), well I have absolutely no idea what she does, apparently wikipedia says she’s an actress, model and singer.

Kumiko Aso (麻生久美子­), an actress, no idea who she is as well.

Reina Asami (浅見れいな), she’s also an actress ^_^”

Nana Katase (片瀬那奈), finally an actress I know about =p. You would remember seeing her in Death Note: The Last Name or in Teppan Shoujo Akane as irritating Erena (I really loved her character in that drama serial).

Chinatsu Wakatsuki (若槻千夏) is a multi-talented idol that recently just won an online poll from Oricon whereby 600 young men and women voted her as having the cutest and liveliest voice.

Miku Ishida (石田未来) is an actress that I also have no idea about her.

Yui Aragaki (新垣結衣), I dunno much about her except that I saw her in a very cute UNIQLO commercial and Pocky dance commercial as well.

Anzu Sayuri (杏さゆり) is another top gravure idol that has appeared in many magazines.

Emi Kobayashi (小林恵美) is also a gravure idol, but I don’t know much about her.

Saya Kazuki (和希沙也) is another gravure idol. If you seen Kekkiashi, she voices Yurina who is the classmate of Yoshimori that can see ghosts.
