For Today’s Japan Photo, we will visit the world’s only indoor beach.

Its located in Japan’s Ocean Dome in Miyazaki Prefecture, and everything is housed under this huge retracable roof, where everyone can enjoy perfect temperature-controlled salt-free water for swimming in, and the sky is always bright and blue.

Today’s Japan Photo: Lone Surviving Pine

Sometimes the forces of nature can be so amazing. For Today’s Japan Photo, we will take a look at this tall pine tree that is the lone survivor amongst some 70,000 pine trees that used to stand along the beach of Rikuzentakata City in Iwate Prefecture.

The tree must have been real strong to withstand the force of the tsunami. Though I think it would make really good furniture for being so strong, I hope no one cuts it down and instead let it stand as a landmark to remember the disaster.

Otaku Lingo: Fan Service ファンサービス

Nowadays, while you are watching an anime or reading a manga, you might find yourself staring at the female protagonist’s cleavage or pantsu and such situations have absolutely no association with the development of the storyline. Such scenes are commonly known as fan service (ファンサービス) or service cut (サービスカット). Its rather common in some of the more recent anime to always have a scene in the shower, at the onsen or even an episode dedicated to a summer trip to the beach.

Of course, anime/manga producers sometime make use of other opportunities to insert the fan service scenes, such as making use of a gust of wind to cause all the girls skirts to fly up, thus revealing their pantsu.

Then there are other fan service scenes that require more imagination such as a simple scene of the female protagonist doing something as innocent as licking a melting ice-cream.

Apart from fan service for the male otaku fans, there are also instances of fan service oriented at the female audience such as the accidental kiss between two male protagonist.

While I think they are generally fine and help to liven up the show, I think there are just an overabundance of fan service material nowadays and sometimes they distract viewers from the actual storyline. Which would you prefer? More fan service or less?

I love heading out to the beach but not to play beach ball or look at bikini babes. Sometimes I just like to admire the beautiful sights that nature has to offer. For Today’s Japan Photo, we will be enjoying the breathtaking sights of one of the jetty at Taketomi Island, Okinawa.

This lovely shot was captured by ippei + janine. I really love the how the jetty seems to be a path leading all the way to the deep blue sky on the horizon.

Since its almost the end of the week, I thought we shake off the summer heat and head over to the beach for Today’s Japan Photo. We have a great candid shot of three lovely bikini babes and all three of them look so kawaii hanging onto their floats.

This candid shot was captured timely by bondesu, though it would have been even better if all three girls are facing the camera. So how many of you can’t swim and need the assistance of a float when you head to the local pool or beach?

Its summer season in Japan and it seems like many Japanese folks are heading to the beach to deal with the summer heat. For Today’s Japan Photo, we will be taking a bird’s eye view to view the crowd at the beach.

For Today’s Japan Photo, we will be visiting the lovely Tokashiki Island 渡嘉敷島 which is an island in the Pacific Ocean that is part of Okinawa Prefecture. The photo just looks so relaxing that I would love to take a long relaxing holiday at the beach.

The photo above features the Aharen Beach and is taken by ippei + janine, who has taken many more wonderful photos. I do strongly recommend that you check out their Japanese beaches set.

Following July popular gravure special featuring Yuko Ogura in a meido photoshoot, I’ve decided to feature a new gallery of hers. This time its her autumn breeze photo gallery.
