Today’s Japan Photo: Goldfish Scooping 金魚すくい

For Today’s Japan Photo, we take a look at this kawaii little girl in yukata playing the interesting traditional Japanese game “Goldfish scooping (金魚すくい)” at the local summer matsuri.

The basic rule is that the player scoops goldfish from a pool with a paper scooper called a “poi”. Players can take the scooped goldfish home in a special bag provided by the stall keeper. The game is unlimited, so players can scoop until their pois are completely broken.
