Otaku Lingo: Sukumizu Moe スクール水着萌え

To Heart is the hottest and best-selling Bishoujo game in Japan!

We have already talked about Miko Moe 巫女萌え and Meido Moe メイド萌え in the previous Otaku Lingo. This weekend we continue with another popular sub-genre - Sukumizu Moe スクール水着萌え.

Just to recap: “Moe” (萌え, pronounced phonetically as mo-a) is used to describe a feeling or characteristic. It’s not a genre. The word is used most to refer to something or more commonly someone “adorable”, “cute”, mainly to Manga/Anime and originally video game characters but with a burning desire! <3

Summer means blistering hot weather and the great time to insert the swimming school scene in an anime series. ”Sukumizu” is a Japanese term for ladies school swimsuits, it’s actually an abbreviation for “Sukuuru Mizugi (スクール水着)”. Sukumizu is actually the word to connotate the school one-piece swimsuit (usually blue in color). If you enjoy hanging around the swimming pool or the beach in your spare time O_O, then this is definitely your kind of moe.

Komugi Sukumizu Cosplay by HezaChan

One of my favourite anime series Azumanga Daioh (あずまんが大王) is based around school girls growing up and we have heavy hints of Sukumizu from their male teacher Mr Kimura, he tends to lose focus when around the girls and goes to extreme lengths to get envolved in their P.E lessons especially swimming…

Azumanga Daioh Anime – Mr Kimura has a soft sport for Sukumizu…

Unlike the bikini, the sukumizu doesn’t reveal much but still manages to outline the figure of the individual. Of course, the glistening water from the swimming pool just help to add to the allure of the entire scene. So who do you think look great in the Sukumizu?
