Today’s Japan Photo: Kishiwada Danjiri Festival 岸和田だんじり祭

Over the weekend, the popular Kishiwada Danjiri Festival 岸和田だんじり祭 was held in Osaka prefecture. For Today’s Japan Photo, we will be taking a look at the awesome festival that involves many people racing down the street with a large wooden cart.

The festival is believed to date from 1703, when locals held a ceremony to pray for good harvests. If you intend to catch the festival when you visit Japan, you should try to station yourself at the intersection of the road whereby the float-pullers will try to make the floats take 90-degree turns without slowing down.
