Along the coast of Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture stands a lone pine tree that has survived following the disasterous Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan on 11 Mar 2011.
For Today’s Japan Photo, we take a look at this lovely capture where the “tree of hope” is seen standing tall under the moonlight. While the tree has been a important symbol of hope for reconstruction, it has been dying due to the saltwater damage. The local government will be cutting it down at the end of the month and treating it with preservative before re-erecting back in the same place.
