Today’s Japan Photo: Himeji Castle 姫路城

For Today’s Japan Photo, we visit Himeji Castle (姫路城) in Hyougo and enjoy the beautiful sunrise in the background.

This castle was registered as the first Japanese National Cultural Treasure by UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Japanese National Cultural Treasure in December, 1993. Along with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle, it is one of Japan’s “Three Famous Castles”, and is the most visited castle in Japan.

    This is such a beautiful shot of the castle!
    I live pretty close to it, so I’ve been there many times and it’s really crazy to see how many tourist it gets every day – even now that you can’t see much of it! ^-^;

    I’ve only been to 65 Japanese Castles so far, but to most of the “top castles” and Himeji is still one of my favorite castles! ^-^;
