Last year, Glico carried out an immensely success marketing campaign for their “Ice no Mi (アイスの実)” candy featuring the AKB48 virtual member. Now Glico has returned with a new campaign, and it involves AKB48 members in a special murder mystery.
This special 5 part series features member Katou Rena as the murder victim, while Maeda Atsuko takes on the role of the detective to solve the case. A cryptic message has been left behind, and fans would have to figure out what “N” and “23K.24AB” means. It has been confirmed that the campaign will feature all 89 members as suspects. Fans can access the official website to check out more clues for solving the mystery at the same time.
In addition to the series of commercials, Glico has also engaged Detective Conan mangaka Aoyama Gosho to create a special series of manga based on the original storyline that was created by AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi. The manga contains 9 seperate chapters and will be published in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine starting 4 Jul 2012.
