Today’s Japan Photo: Tokyo Hotaru Festival 東京ホタル

For Today’s Japan Photo, we take a look at this lovely image where 100,000 led lights were floated on the Sumida River that flows through Tokyo.

This is part of the Tokyo Hotaru Festival, and the LED lights that were released are called “Inori Boshi (いのり星)”. The significance is to re-imagine how the river look like if there were fireflies flying above it on a summer night, and help Tokyo residents appreciate the importance of co-existence with mother nature.
