There comes a time where an otaku becomes emotionally attached to their favorite 2D character from an anime/manga/video game series and would use the term “Mai Waifu”. The term is used to describe the special attachment to the character going to as far as coining the character as their own wife.
According to my online research, it seems that the phrase became popular after it appeared in a scene from Azumanga Daioh (あずまんが大王).
So how many of you have used that term or already have that special someone who is 2D as “your waifu”? ^^
