Otaku Lingo: Meganekko メガネっ娘

Right after Nekomimi 猫耳, another popular moe element is meganekko メガネっ娘, that refer to girls who wear glasses.

While wearing glass might imbue the character with some stereotypical traits such as being shy, geeky, clumsy or associated with certain roles such as the class representative or the teacher, it might also be used to depict someone who is bossy and respectful of authority.

Megane (glasses) has been such a popular moe fetish because of the fact that it can be paired with many other moe elements such as the meido outfit, seifuku, teacher or any other roles you can imagine.

The moe appeal of glasses is not only limited to the 2D world but also in the 3D world as well, where Tokito Ami 時東 ぁみ is a Japanese gravure idol who became popular amongst fans because of her trademark glasses.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t wear contact lenses. The other reason is that I’m scared of putting things in my eyes >_<
