Today’s Japan Photo: Kyoto Tower 京都タワー

Most of us would be familiar with the beautiful Tokyo Tower 東京タワー. But for Today’s Japan Photo, we will be visiting another tower located in Kyoto prefecture – Kyoto Tower 京都タワー, which is the tallest structure in Kyoto with its observation deck at 100 meters and its spire at 131 meters.

I really like this photo was taken, where Kyoto Tower seems to stands out in front of the dark blue sky.

There has been mixed reactions to the Kyoto Tower because not everyone (both residents and tourist) likes how it seems to contrast against the old heritage structures that you see around Kyoto.

    Those must be some recent heritage structures because most of the buildings look modern to me O_o

    I think that as long as it’s not built in front of Kiyomizu or next to Kinkaku-ji or on the same hill as Fushimi Inari Taisha is located, it’s fine. I like contrasts between the modern and the historic. However, most people – judging mainly from the development conflicts in my hometown Prague – don’t seem like those contrasts and prefer to keep the places rich in history untainted by modern structures.

      I prefer to have a mix of both old and new together.
