Japan’s Train Station To Prohibit Walking on Escalators
In some countries, its customary to stand on one side of the escalator and let others who are in a hurry to walk up/down the escalators. While its a common sight in Japan, it seems that the subway stations in Japan are rolling out new policies to ban people from walking on escalators.

The rationale is being that they wanted to reduce the number of accidents that occur on escalators. It was mentioned in the news article that escalators accidents have almost doubled over the course of 10 years.

But I was thinking that when they analysed the statistics, they actually didn’t take into account that there are more escalators than there was back then. So actually, the risk of getting into an accident on escalators did not significantly increase at all.
I’m always in a hurry to get to work in the morning, so I always appreciate that people who would stand on one side of the escalator. And if the bugger doesn’t know how to do so, I would usually kick him/her down the steps. =P

So they rather let errant people hog the WHOLE escalator to themselves? What a waste.
What if you have peeps who are trying to decide whether they are going to ride up the escalator or not ( It happens, no plausible explanation on that )?

People in Singapore usually stand to one side on the escalators because there are always people that want to rush up to the platform to stand and wait for the train just as long as the rest of us. Maybe it’s their morning exercise?
Seriously, though, I can see how in some instances people would want to rush out of the train station, but it is kinda dangerous. If they want to walk faster than the escalator, why not use the stairs? Aren’t there any stairs in the Japanese train stations?
thats what i always do. but come to think of it, if you are walking up the escalator, doesnt that made taking the escalator route completely useless (maybe a bit faster)? it may be dangerous in other sense
