Apart from tall building, Japan also have many interesting tall structures. For Today’s Japan Photo, we shall take a look at the majestic statue of the Ushiku Daibutsu 牛久大仏, which is 120 meters tall.

The Ushiku Daibutsu

This lovely shot of the majestic statue was taken by flickr user mAi1227(on and off). If you look at the tiny person in the right bottom corner and compare it to the statue, you can tell that the statue is indeed gigantic.

Here’s a little more background info on Ushiku Daibutsu 牛久大仏:

The Ushiku Daibutsu (牛久大仏) located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, is one of the world’s tallest statues.

Completed in 1993, it stands a total of 120 meters (394 feet) tall, including the 10m high base and 10m high lotus platform. An elevator takes visitors up to 85m off the ground, where an observation floor is located. It depicts Amitabha Buddha and is plated with bronze. It is also known as Ushiku Arcadia (Amida’s Radiance and Compassion Actually Developing and Illuminating Area).
