Today’s Japan Photo: Japanese Snow Monkeys

I thought it would be good to brighten your monday blues with this cute photo of Japanese snow monkey for Today’s Japan photo series.

Mmmm, this hot water makes me sooooo sleepy!

The photo was captured by flickr user chris-lh, and it seems like the hot spring is so comfy that its making the monkey sleepy. LOL

A little more information on Japanese Snow Monkeys:

The Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata), also known as the snow monkey, is a terrestrial Old World monkey species native to Japan.

They lives in mountainous areas of Honshū, Japan. It survives winter temperatures below -15 °C (5°F), and is perhaps most notable for the amount of time it spends in naturally heated volcanic hot springs in Snow Monkey park located in Yamanouchi town, close to a historical hot spring area named Shibu Onsen. They exhibit interesting behaviors such as bathing together in hot springs and rolling snowballs for fun.
