Lucky☆Star Economic Impact on Washimiya Town

We all know that Lucky☆Star has brought about a great change to the town of Washimiya, with its Washinomiya Shrine recording over 450,000 Visitors on New Year. But exactly how huge has the anime franchise impacted that town and its people?

According to this news report from Mainichi Mantan, the anime franchise is estimated to have brought over 1 billion yen! (Starting from when the town was first featured on the anime back in 2007.)

Its not that surprising considering more and more otakus are flocking to Washinomiya Shrine every year, and that the town had been cashing in on the fever as we had read over the past years: Lucky☆Star Sake, Lucky☆Star Engine Oil, Lucky☆Star Street Lamps, etc.
