Studio Ghibli & Pixar

Japan Probe has uploaded a very interesting news report on two huge animation studios – Studio Ghibli and Pixar.

Its interesting that Miyazaki sent Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, John Lasseter, 50 stuffed makkuro kurosuke for his 50th birthday.

The report also shows some of the key differences between the way Pixar and Ghibli create their films. Miyazaki has almost total control over the entire creative process that goes into his film, while Pixar likes to engage in group brainstorming.

In recent years, I have seen quite a couple of promising Japanese director such as Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai creating awesome works. I’m hoping they will be be able to achieve the same status as Miyazaki in the future.

I think they are on pretty good terms. Saw John Lasseter’s autograph on the walls of the Ghibli Museum film projector room and also an autographed bottle of wine in the recreation of Miyazaki’s studio. =D

These two anime studios are like the icons of the East and West. I love both.

I like Pixar, but I prefer Ghibli. Idk, with only two exceptions that came to my mind now it seems to me that American studios have forgotten the appeal of 2D. =/

    I second that!
