What You Can Expect For AFA09
Having attended this afternoon’s media briefing on Anime Festival Asia 09, I’m happy to share with you folks what to expect for this upcoming anime conference that is scheduled to be held in Singapore on 21-22 November 2009.
One of the best way to get information is to check out the official website (which I’m glad to be one of the affliates), which has been launched this afternoon. Just like last year, AFA09 will be held at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Halls 403 and 404) in Singapore. The organizers have also included a one-day business conference, Animation Asia Conference 2009 (AAC09) held on 20th November at the same venue.
So what can anime fans expect from the event?
- Awesome live performance of anime songs from top Japanese artists
- Regional Cosplay Competition
- Cute meidos from the Moe Moe Kyun Maid Café
- Cool showcase of Gundam models at Bandai Experience Zone
- Top Japanese Pop Culture Blogger Dannychoo ^^
I LOVE ANISONG
This year’s anime concerts will be themed as “I Love Anisong”. Last year performers Ichiro Mizuki 水木 一郎 and May Nakabayashi 中林 芽依 are so popular that they will be returing to Singapore for a second time. In addition, Shokotan 中川 翔子 and Yoshiki Fukuyama 福山 芳樹 have also been invited to perform for the fans.
While I’m dissapointed that they only invited Yoshiki Fukuyama and not the entire JAM Project, I’m still quite happy that I would get to see the wacky “cat-eating” Shokotan on stage.
REGIONAL COSPLAY COMPETITION
Cosplay fans would be delighted to know that AFA09 will be organising the first ever Regional Cosplay Championship in Asia, which is scheduled to open soon on 8 September 2009.
The top cosplay team from each South East Asian country will be sponsored by AFA09 to compete in the Regional Cosplay Championship during the two-day anime festival.
The highlight of the competition will be that the judges will include distinguished guest from Japan including top cosplayers such as Kaname.
MOE MOE KYUN MEIDO CAFE
Another awesome feature of the event would be the Moe Moe Kyun Meido Cafe. While these meido might not speak the most authentic Japanese, their enthusiastic moe-ness would definitely melt you hearts and soothe your soul.

Here’s a couple of photos of them that I took at the press conference. Any particular meido that you would love to be serving you coffee and calling you “goshujin-sama”? Personally I would love to meet Yukiko and Mika because they have very cute smiles ^^
BANDAI WORLD GUNPLA COMPETITION
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Gundam, Bandai, Anime Festival Asia (AFA) and Danny Choo has organised the Bandai World Gunpla Competition.
Interested folks would first be registered at figure.fm and post their Gunpla work into 1 of 4 categories which are:
- Coolest free-style Gunpla
- Cutest Super-Deformed (SD) Gundam
- Coolest Gundam diorama
- Most amusing Gunpla
Winners will have their entries displayed at AFA in the form of graphic prints at the Bandai showcase in AFA.
SUMMING UP
There are just so many great events taking place at this year AFA09 that I can’t wait for November to arrive. As a fan of live concerts, I would definitely pumped up about seeing Aniki perform once again. Hopefully I would get to see some of my readers at the event as well ^^
