Otaku Comrades … Rally Behind Alafista

I’m pleased to announced Alafista.com has been shortlisted as one of the finalist for Singapore Blog Awards 2009 – Best Lifestyle Blog. Of course, that means I need all the help of fellow otaku comrades to help vote for Alafista.com and promote the otaku culture to the masses.

I still remember last year, our dear otaku comrade TK8316 – Gordonator was shortlisted for the Most Entertaining Blog category. So this year I decided to give it a try as well. My intentions of joining the contest was to benchmark my site against other Singaporean sites, while at the same time promoting our beloved Japanese otaku culture to other folks on the internet. Since I’m now a finalist in the lifestyle category, I’m calling all otaku comrades to rally behind me and help vote for my site! ^^

The voting button is located on my right sidebar, and folks can vote for my site once per day. Since a significant portion of my readers come from around the globe, I’m not sure whether the voting is limited to only Singaporeans or is open to all. But do try to register for an account and help cast your daily vote!

I try to nominate your blog in the previous round but to register my account i need a NRIC / FIN number. Then i’ve found that is a National Registration Identity Card just for singaporean citizens and permanent residents. But, as you know, i’m in Spain…

By the way, i’ve found this in the rules:

    Phase 3: Voting (5 weeks)
The top ten entries for each of the ten award categories will be announced. Public will be invited to vote for their favourite entries to crown the overall winner for each category (determined 30% by public votes and 70% by a panel of professional judges).

So, just the 30% of the votes are from the public. Good luck! I hope you win the contest!!!

    • Alafista says:

Yeah I wonder why they don’t allow foreigners to participate.

I’m thinking since the website is owned by the Singapore Press Holdings Limited, an actual company(probably government-related, not too sure). Only Singaporeans or PRs can register. I registered, and was directed to the omy.sg webpage. ¯3¯
Also gave you my vote, not sure if it’ll help in the long run but good luck!

Such contests are really pointless, unless there are fancy prizes of course. The fact is that we dont’ really cater solely to Singaporeans, so the blogs that do will probably win.

    • gordon says:

there are prizes of course. fancy or not depends on how one looks at it.

      • gordon says:

like having a life time supply of figures may be fancy to us but not to the average person.

      • Saouri says:

Life time supply of figures? *w*
        Really nice prize.

Gordon, good luck to you too. I saw your blog nominated in other category.

      • gordon says:

thanks Saouri, wow u read though all the categories and found me? *touched*

did u check out the best modeling blog category? (‘~’)

      • Saouri says:

Since i’m following DC blog, i’ve found some of you in the net, like Alafista and Gordonator blogs. Sometime i just read, and others, i leave message ;)
I read here that you were nominated the last year, so I looked for your blog between the new nominees, because i was almost sure that you would return to the contest.

And about “modeling” category, first time i think it was about model kits and other figures, and not about real models.

        XD

P.D.: Alvin, excuses to turn your thread into a chat

Congrats on making it to the finalist round!
It’s a shame foreigners can’t vote, we would have all backed you up 100% \>w</
So is it for the honor or can you win some cool price with it?

    • Alafista says:

Nah the prizes are all trips … I rather if they gave away some toys or gadgets. LOL

But the honor would be good though ^^

  4. maru says:

Hee can’t vote for this, me haz no NRIC number xD

    Good luck!

  5. gordon says:

    Congrats Alafista for making it into the top 10 of your category. Glad to see another anime/otaku blog got in this year. guess i’ll see u at the award ceremony or any outings along the way. ^^;

btw last year i inquired why voting is only open to locals and PRs, the reason OMY gave was they need NRIC to give away the prizes.

  6. pus2meong says:

  8. Blacksun88 says:
