Women Fell To Her Death At Golf Course

If you think playing golf is a perfectly safe sport, you might want to reconsider. A women fell to her death, after a sink hole suddenly opened up on a golf course in Hokkaido yesterday.

The hole was about 1.5 meters wide and 5 meters deep.

Police are investigating the cause of the hole’s appearance to determine if there was any negligence by the golf course management.

I’m just amazed how can such a sink hole suddenly appear in the ground? They should just start implementing these traps in golf courses to make the entire sport more exciting. I would sit there and watch the game if I knew they planted land mines on the course ^^

As for how a sink hole can just appear, Hokkaido used to be a coal mining region, so there are likely hundreds of abandoned, possibly flooded, underground mine shafts, tunnels, etc. lurking beneath the surface. The only things holding these tunnels up are rotting, century-old timbers. I doubt that anybody really has more than a rough estimate of where and how many there are, either.

I live in another old mining area (Pennsylvania), and holes like that are a regular occurence here. They usually don’t open up just as somebody is walking over it, but it does happen from time to time.
