If you just happened to be in Akihabara on the eve of April Fools’ Day, you would have witness one of the best April Fools’ Day prank this year. Level 5, developer of Dragon Quest, announced on their website that Dragon Quest IX was being release on the midnight of 1st April, and made tons of otaku wait outside Softmap for the “official launch”.

Here’s a look at the tons of otaku that were queuing up (AkibaBlog reports that there was more than 2,000 people):

Btw the real release date for Dragon Quest IX is in July. So folks, don’t panic and head to your game store yet. =P
I pity the poor 2000 folks who stood outside in the cold. It would be really “funny” if they started a riot and burned down Softmap for this prank. But still I’m puzzled why these people still fell for it considering this wasn’t the first time such a prank was pulled.

otakus will always be otakus
Dragon Quest is like a religion in Japan
pity the fans who are standing outisde.. =/
pure ownage XD
isnt that classed as miss informing the public or something? like….neglegence or some such??
