Love eating jellies? Well this women actually choked to death while eating jelly and now her daughter has filed a damages suit, demanding that the food maker pay 29 million yen in compensation for lack of safety of the product.
According to the complaint filed with the Nagoya District Court, the 87-year-old woman died of respiratory failure after choking on the jelly in August 2005.
The daughter, 60, says the jelly was very elastic and easy to suck in with one gulp but there was no clear warning that someone could choke on the product.
The manufacturer, based in Tomioka, Gunma Prefecture, suspended producing the jelly temporarily in October and resumed it the next month after lowering its elasticity and enlarging the warning label on the product.

Jelly doesn’t kill people, but stupidity does. Everytime you put something in your mouth you already run the risk of choking, so the lawsuit doesn’t make any sense at all!!
Next time someone got a food allergy, maybe they’ll blame god. Stupid customer accusing with stupid law system, and stupid company for complying with it.
Was it one of those jellies wrapped in plastic that you pop in your mouth? We had a bunch of kids choke on them here and they stopped selling them. =_=
