New Site Layout for 2009
Apart from posting interesting articles for my readers, I also felt that improving the navigation of my site was important. Therefore, I’ve launched a brand new layout for alafista.com. ^^
As usual, I’m going to bring you folks through the new site layout so that you’d be familar with its navigation.
First let’s go through the stuffs located at the “top of the fold”
Since I’m a big fan of the anime series Toradora! I’ve updated the header image to feature Taiga Aisaka.
The top portion of this site is now a featured section, accompanied by a scrolling carousel of the featured articles on the right. At the bottom of the featured section is the 5 main categories: gravure x idols, groovin jtunes, japan, oishii and otaku. “Oishii” is a newly launched category where you can find all the articles on yummy food and cute chara bentos are kept.
Moving onto the main section of the blog. My previous theme did not clearly show all my recent post. So this time round, my frequent readers who visit my site directly can immediately see what are the latest 10 articles that I’ve posted. I thought this was important since I’ve about 3-5 new articles per day.
Since many of incoming reades are from aggregators and other website, I thought it would be good to maintain the category spoiler located on the right sidebar. Basically its to inform the reader what are the latest article under that particular category.
Lastly moving to the footer section. There is a nice random post section where readers can have a quick glance of my archived post. If any of the thumbnail catches their attention, they can just click on it to read the article.
The bottom footer is roughy the same as before, except I’ve change the left bottom footer to feature tag clouds. Other than that, you can still find the recent comments and most popular posts on the bottom footer section.
So there you have it, a brief tour of my new site layout. Do feedback to me whether you like this layout. Does it improve your surfing experience on my site?

I thought it’d be good if there’s a section for ‘Recent Posts’ that doesn’t clash with the category spoiler at the right.. hmm. Just a suggestion ^^;

This style is way too popular. Well, I guess I’ll have to pick a totally random style next year… or make my own.
But eh, if anyone looks like Yukan! you can say me :[ Never intended but similar themes are similar.
The Banzai Effect also has this theme. If you ask me, themes with too much colors causes imbalance for a site. Just my critique on saying “Stick with only a small set of colors”.
Yeah Arthemia is popular because its a great theme.
I’d probably stick to this theme until I have enough $_$ to hire some amazing internet folks like those at smashing magazine to help me build a truly unique site.

I’m looking for a new face for my blog. Maybe a “magazine theme”, because a have a lot of tag about anime, manga, figures, otaku life-style, japanese culture.
