A group of radical otakus have banded together and started a petition campaign. Their aim is to gather 1 million signature so that they can ask the House of Represenatives to grant them the legal right to wed the 2D character of their choice.
Their leader expresses clearly that he has no interest in real women:
If possible we would like to become inhabitants of the 2D world. With current technology standards however, this won’t be possible anytime soon. Having said that, at least we ask for the legal right to marry a 2D character. If comes though I would like to marry Asahina Mikuru.

I think it is kinda absurd. Doesn’t that mean that everyone can marry Mikuru. And that would take any special meaning out of it. And I definitely prefer real women. LOL

How can Foreigners sign it to show their international support?
Just because you can marry a 2D character (or perhaps it’s 3D more often these days), what makes you think that they’ll have you? Shouldn’t there be mutual consent? Besides, a lot of these 2D characters are below the legal age limit, they’d have to get their parent’s or guardian’s permission first.

i agree with duke about mutual consent and also throw in my own opinion of isnt this just gonna make people with 2D complexes worse… maybe even suicidal?
my first fantasized character was leona ozaki from dominion tank police, man how i loved her, i quickly moved on to sakura from cardcaptor sakura and its steadily built up, its a real harem in my head now…..
I for one would love to wed a couple a characters , thats right a couple! make that thousands…im all for it, i will sign willingly.
on the other hand there will come a time when jealousy kicks in and people are killing each other for characters love.

Awesome, I want to marry a 3D and a 2D girl…pretty difficult for them to fight each other…
