YouTube Signs Agreement With Japanese Music Rights Group
YouTube users who love to post videos of themselves singing Japanese songs will now no longer worry about copyright infringement. YouTube has just signed an agreement with Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) to host user performances of copyrighted songs.

As long as their song performances is listed under the 7 million songs in JASRAC’s catalog, users wouldn’t be without violating artist copyrights.
Under the agreement, Google will be paying the copyright usage fees to JASRAC on behalf of individual users.
But sadly, all other use of footage and music from TV, DVDs, CDs and so on will remain a violation of the Copyright Law.

Hopefully someday they will allow people to freely share anime and television shows as well.

Well, at least we’re getting somewhere. Onwards to freedom!
