How Much Does A Japanese Nightclub Hostess Makes?
Ever wondered how much a nightclub hostess makes? Japan Probe has an interesting article and mentions a recent survey that 22.3% of Japanese women between the ages of 15 and 22 wanted to become hostesses.

On the chart of “dream jobs”, nightclub hostess is ranked #9 while a civil servant is only ranked#18.
James goes on to explain that it is because successful hostesses can make a lot of money.
According to Asahi news, the average hourly pay of a hostess is 4000 yen, more than doubled the 1200 yen hourly average paid to female officer workers.Of course, popular ones would be earning millions of yen per year.
Here’s a short clip that follows Momoka, a popular hostess, throughout her night:
As you can see, at the end of the night, Momoka earns about 250,000 yen. Thats close to what I earn in a month!!
But after work, life is not that glamorous. Momoka goes back to a small apartment and she says that she doesn’t intend to stay in this line for long. Her ambition is to earn enough money so that she can open her own doggie cafe.

I thought it was an interesting report. I had always wondered how much those hostesses earn and how I gotten a better answer. So how many of you ever visited a nightclub before?

Yes i certainly have, more than i care to remember. I have 3 hostesses living in my apartment complex …. and that’s just 3 i know of, there might be more, not bad odd for a 24 apartment complex.
How does it work? Do you pay the girls directly or are they just commissioned based on how many customers they pull/drinks they get them to buy?
I actually do know someone who works part time as a hostess. And she’s only 18, the same age as me.
Coincidentally, I technically went to a nightclub for the first time last night. ^^ I was for my high school homecoming party, so no alcohol and a bunch of 14-19 year olds.
