USA or Europeans that are eagerly awaiting to play some Japanese games on their Nindento DSi come next year will be disappointed to know that all DSi software and content will be region locked.
This means that Nintendo DSi released in Europe will only be able to play games that for that region and not interchangebly play games that are released for the Japanese region as well.
“DSi is region locked because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region. Also because we are including parental control functionality for Nintendo DSi and each region has its unique age limit made by different independent.”
Universal DS software, as well as web browsing and photo sharing will remain region-free.
This kinda sucks since losta fun games are sometimes only released for the Japanese region. Does that mean folks would have to purchase 2 sets instead.
Whaaaaaaaat. I’m sticking to my DS then! (At least until the new games become totally incompatible with the old set.)
This is just stupid. There will be paying customers who used to import some titles from japan that turn to piracy because of this, way to go Nintendo =/
