Japanese Police Worry About Surge In Random Street Killings

Submitted by Alafista on Thursday, 24 July 20088 Comments

Following the random fatal stabbing of a bookshop salesperson yesterday evening, Japan’s National Police Agency has announced that in the last 10 years (1998-2007) there were 67 cases of random street killings or attempted killings across the nation.

For this year, up to July, there have already been eight cases of random street assaults, including the recent one at Akihabara in June, which killed and injured 17 people.

The NPA has recently been on high alert as people will wear lighter clothes during summer, making them more subject to fatal injuries if stabbed.

I doubt wearing thicker clothes would help much if anyone tried stabbing a knife into your body.

Come to think of it, what would you do if you see someone running towards you with a knife?

Some will be startled and take the full brunt of the attack. More fit individuals may have a reaction to jump back from the attacker, maybe lessening the impact.

I’d probably try grabbing the arm for a reaction, but it would be too late: the wound is deep, and I’d fall to the ground. Calming down helps lower the heart rate and the amount of blood leaving you would be less.

Run, they’re copycats! They are the worst!

Probably scream and reach for something to defend myself and then i’d bolt. I’d only use the object of defense if I absolutely had to. NEVER RUN INTO A SHELTERED PLACE.

  • Nemo_N says:

Don’t just stand there for starters.

Difficult call though, since it’s hard to react when you’re just minding your business.

  • KiTT says:

Well depends doesn’t it, fast people would run, slow people would try and avoid and then beat down said fool… im slow but i doubt i could beat anyone down lol but i guess id have to give it a shot in the situation.
Maybe wearing clothes made from Kevlar would help but looking like an escimo in summer with extra thick clothes on would more likely get you noticed in england lol.

Over here we have every Tom, Dick and Harry weilding knives at the moment and we get reports of stabbings on almost a daily basis, but these are only the reported ones located in london, over the country we must be having countless stabbings, it seems to be raising everwhere all over the world but with no effective way of countering it aside from prison (which are all full) they are just gonna roam free and keep stabbing folk. I hope Japan can get the upper hand on it because we sure failed.

  • Find something long so I can get to them before they get to me.

I probably wouldn’t even notice the guy. LOL.

  • Dee says:

@coco the bean = that is the sorta thing chavs say in england when they stab someone ” i carry a knife ‘cos other peeps are carrying them, so i needed protection” bad plan short man! lol.

personally i would produce a a berreta 92f from my pocket and cap the foo…………….nah i would swing my bag in the way of the knife, im rarely out without my deathnote messenger bag and that thing has some depth, i aint getting stabbed thats fer sure!

i would kick the snot outa the guy tho
