The Day After Akiba Stabbing

Yesterday night, we talked about the horrible stabbing incident that occurred in Akihabara. So apart from people showing their condolences and bringing flowers for the dead victims, what else took place today?

The Day After Akiba Stabbing

Firstly, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has instructed State Minister Shinya Izumi to thoroughly investigate the incident, including the social background of the suspect.

So what has the investigators and media dug up?

The suspect had in fact, posted an advance notice about his plans for the crime on a mobile phone site just hours before the rampage.

The message he posted was titled, “I will kill people in Akihabara,” and started with the lines: “I will drive into a crowd, then I will use a knife after I’ve finished with the vehicle. Goodbye everyone.”

He later apparently entered such messages as: “It’s about time. Let’s go,” (at 6:31 a.m.); “Well, I don’t care. Even though it’s going to be a small-scale attack, I will do it even if it rains,” (7:47 a.m.); “It’s a day for pedestrian paradise today, isn’t it?” (11:45 a.m.); “It’s about time,” (12:10 p.m.)

The media also dug up his personal history and showed that he failed twice for an entrance examination to a science and engineering university.

He was also mistakenly thinking that he had been dismissed from his workplace; similarly he posted comments on the mobile phone site :

“When I went to my workplace, I found my work clothes were missing. Does it mean I should quit my job?”

“I guess the company is happy about expelling me,”

Finally the media has found the story it needs to launch their super duper fatality attack on doujin and anime. They had found that the suspect had some copies of dojinshi in his apartment and also enjoyed singing anime songs at karaoke. He was also reported to be only interested in “the 2D world”.

I hate it when all it takes is one idiot to create moral panic against the otaku crowd. I’d love to see how this witch-hunt turns out.

Digg!

I would insert some obligatory ‘What else floats? A DUCK!’ witch jokes, but they’d be inappropriate considering the seriousness of this situation.

I’m part of a conservative family with over9000 conservative friends, and most of them just don’t ‘get’ my interest in anime in any way. If this turns into another Blogs4Brownback-style witch hunt, then… I’m honestly screwed. I live in a fairly conservative city, and my church is full of hypocritical conservative suburbanites, and… yeah.

We’re all in trouble if the media calls for a witch hunt. Srsly.

This is just turning gay now… every time something somewhere goes wrong they’re like it was the Otaku’s fault.

Then we get to his Manga collection… so what lol, why does his interests in the “2D world” make him a killer…
I love Death Note, but i dont write names down in books and time it to 40 seconds then phone their house to see if they are dead *shifty eyes* i hate the media

If he was interested in only the 2D world, why would he attack other fans of the 2D world? =(

I wonder why his work clothes were missing. It seems odd that someone would go into his locker and remove them, unless he missed the company-wide dry cleaning day memo.
