In the afteremath of Akiba’s stabbing incident, Japan’s online stores and auction sites have starting banning the sale of daggers.
On Friday, Yahoo! Japan implementing a total ban on daggers on its Internet auction and shopping sites. They are also considering increasing the range of ban to include other types of knives.
Another popular online retailer, Rakuten has also already banned items such as knives, stun guns and pepper sprays in auctions.

Just like the suspension of Akihabara Weekend Pedestrian Paradise, I think this is a pointless. If people can’t get the dagger online, they can always head down to the supermarket and buy a chopper.
This ban is ridiculous….Instead of banning every single thing with a sharp edge (kitchen knives, axes, cutting blades, etc) they should evaluate other possibilites, like the society itself….This banning is only like a band-aid and will not solve the root of the problem.
In England there has been a ban like this but only on Eastern style weapons because people like to get the cheap knockoffs and run into shops weilding em like idiots which angered me because i really want to get my own huge collection lol
I totally agree its a crap ban and its proven that even when you cant get hold of blades you can make em (Prisoners make Shanks) so this will never work to the extent its meant to and just angers people who want a nice ornament for their homes… im starting to hate that rampaging freak more and more each day lol
They’re just doing this so appeal to the citizens. It would look bad if the government didn’t do anything although they don’t look very smart either.
