What happens when you are short of money to go out for a drink? This trucker thought he was really smart and secretly swapped real notes in his wife’s purse with the fake 10,000 yen bills.

So now, Masahiro Fujiwara, 47, a truck driver living in Ome, western Tokyo, is facing police charges of counterfeiting currency and using fake bills.

His wife was subsequently arrested by the police and interrogate by investigators for using fake bills. The wife then unknowingly used two of the bills at a fast food store and a dental clinic later in the year.

So in the end, he had no choice but to turn himself in.

How did he get hold of those fake bills?

Fujiwara used a color copy machine at his home to produce about 10 fake 10,000-yen bills in June last year.
