Kadokawa To Stream Content on Youtube

A few months back, we witnessed Kadokawa Group getting Youtube to delete many of their copyrighted content (e.g. Luck Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya).

Now the reason is finally revealed – As reported by Variety/Tech-On, Kadokawa Group will be putting some of its content up on YouTube for free viewing:

Starting in June, when Kadokawa finds its toons on YouTube, it will check to see if the person/company that posted the content is legit rather than immediately ordering YouTube to take it down.

If the person/company is OK’ed, Kadokawa will run ads on the poster’s Web page and divide the revenue with YouTube and the poster. This business model is a first for the Japanese biz.

Until now, Japanese visual contents rights holders, including TV nets and pic producers, have policed YouTube and similar sites for illegal use of their content and notified the site owners when they spot what they consider a pirate.

Kadokawa, however, wants to encourage legit uses of its toons, while spreading the international word about them on YouTube and reaping profits in the bargain.

The YouTube channel can be viewed here.

Well looks like more and more companies are becoming more accepting of uploading their content, while still keeping their copyrights intact.

    First Gonzo, now Kadokawa.. At this rate, online streaming is going to be THE WAY to watch anime. IMO, this is somewhat good and bad. Good because there’ll be anime to stream, bad because there are no subs ^^;

    BTW- I see they have FMP uploaded. ^^

    I’m kudos for all of this if but I wish the videos were better quality.
    Like I watch Blassreiter on crunchyroll and sometimes I can’t even make out what’s happening :[

    @Mizunaga
    Kadokawa aren’t going to sub there anime?
    Ahahaha what’s the point then?
    If they want more people to watch their shows it always helps if the person understood what they’re saying.

  4. Man Kadokawa never ceases to amaze me in their hypocrisy and desperate attempts at advertising in every avenue possible. I imagine this somehow blowing up in their face like most of their schemes.

    Well i spose quality wont be an issue soon, youtube is getting better as far a quality goes all the time (e.g. The higher quality button lol)
    I really will need to learn japanese now if there wont be any subs. Roll on Haruhi series 2!!
