Bandai Compensates Baby Who Swallowed Gashapon Ball
Gashapon are really fun to collect, and I used to have tons of them before I moved on to larger scaled figurines. But the gashaphon balls can be dangerous too - A baby actually swallowed the entire container (40mm wide) and ended up with permanent disabilities.
The parents wanted to sue Bandai for 1.8 billion but the district court has ruled yesterday that Bandai has to pay 26 million yen.
Bandai Namco had argued that their gashapon had followed the safety regulations, whereby the Japanese Toy Association had set the guidelines - Toys for children (under 3 years old) had to be larger than 31.8 mm.

What do you think about the judge ruling? Personally, I think the parents should be the ones responsible. Why could the baby had the chance to play with the gashapon in the first place.
If I was the judge, I’d kick both of them into jail for negligent childcare.

Swallowing a whole gashapon isn’t one of them
40 mm..? Is a baby’s throat wide enough to swallow it? I thought he would’ve got choked instead.
I would put my money on that it was force fed coz they thought they were gonna get alot more money than they did, it seems odd somthing that big could ever fit down a baby’s throat un-aided. Although kids do put anything and everything in their mouths, doesnt matter how big or small its just that surely it couldn’t swallow the ball, how odd.
KITT, u say some silly things, people dont just go around DISABLING their children ROFL, but i dont blame bandai nor gashapons, i blame the child for not having a higher brain capacity and a higher sence of things, WHERES UR ESP HUH?!?!?!?! *slap* stupid child
I think the judge should have let Bandai go instead. According to Bandai’s argument, they did follow the safety regulations, and therefore, they are quite obviously not guilty of this incident. At least they only had to pay a *much less* sum of 26 million yen as compared to 1.8 billion yen.

@ Kresnik: He did kinda choke, which resulted in lack of oxygen to the brain, so resulting in permenant disabilities.
@ KiTT: Hmm .. just like Dee, I don’t really think the parents shove it down the baby throat. But I bet the dad must have been playing with the gashapon and then left it lying around for the baby to pick up.
