Its always nice to have some juicy melons to chase the summer heat away. But I’m sure the summer heat has gotten to some of the people in Japan because a pair of prized Yubari melons were auctioned for a record price of 2.5 million yen (24 000 USD)!

I understand that the insane prices of these Yubari melon began when the city of Yubari was in a state of bankruptcy a few years back.
The trend first started by being auction for 600,000 yen for a pair in 2005, 800,000 yen in 2006 and 2 million yen in 2007.

But I think the city is now sucking punching fruits lovers.
2.5 million yen shouldn’t just fetch you a pair of melons, it should be an entire harvest!

I was thinking a female’s melons….:X It would make more sense to buy a female for 2.5 mil. I can’t believe fruit sells this high!
They had better be juicy!
I wonder how much it’ll be next year… LOL.
I know food prices are going up, but this is ridiculous…
@ Aikyrie: LOL, but I think a female melons would cost more than that.
@ Kenny: Yeah they better be super juicy and sweet. I wonder if you can get a refund if they turn out only tasting average.
@ Mizunaga: I’m guessing 5milion yen!
@ Karura: Yeah, why would someone pay so much for a fruit, unless they are fruits themselves.
