A schoolboy and his parents have filed a lawsuit seeking 10 million yen in damages for emotional distress after a teacher announced him as the most disliked person in his class.

During his forth year of elementary school, the teacher in charge of his class at the time made the students list up the names of classmates they liked and disliked.
About one week later, after receiving a majority vote, the teacher announced the student’s name as the most disliked person in class.
As a result of the announcement, the student started being bullied in class, and about a year and a half later he moved to another school.
The lawsuit, which seeks damages from the Chiba Municipal Government as the school’s operator, was filed in the Chiba District Court. A representative of the Chiba Municipal Board of Education said and investigation would be carried out.

I’m sure the schoolboy must have done something to be voted Mr Unpopular in the first place. Yeah, and now he’s suing the government, so that he can be voted Mr Unpopular by the whole prefecture instead.

1. He’ll almost certainly lose
2. Do you want the school to get away with an act that instigates/encourages bullying? Tomorrow the next classroom could vote a kid out of town (maybe for having “done something to be voted Mr Unpopular in the first place” or maybe because he’s fat and ugly), though I’m sure the school took some internal measures to punish the teacher.
I’m not all that familiar with Japanese Law, but if it’s anything like American Law, he’ll lose.
That teacher sure got guts to made such effort and even got it announced. Don’t they know that bullying is very severe in Japan? If someone got voted to be the most unpopular guy in the class, he must be disliked by the others, but that doesn’t mean he is a bad guy. If he is bad enough, nobody would be stupid enough to point all fingers to him or even dare to bully him afterwards. And he’s still only in the elementary school? Surely his parents are the one who filed the suit, since I don’t think there’s a 4th grader smart enough to file a suit. Which is worse, Mr Unpopular or the whole class who bullied him afterwards? Maybe they should list the most Unpopular-Class instead.
Welcome to the dark side of society.
Even if the kid was disliked beforehand, the fact that the announcement instigated bullying afterwards doesn’t reflect well on the class, including the teacher and administrators.
Welcome to reality.
This is why we don’t have negative superlatives in the states haha
Why would the teacher do such a thing… It seems a lot of work for just some bullying…
I do hope he wins but it is doubtful
