Time Magazine has released their list of Most Influential People of 2008 voted by readers. Interestingly, Nintendo’s video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto came in at the top with more than 2 million votes.
With Nintendo profits soaring 47.4% in their last fiscal year, I’m sure the big boys at the top of Nintendo couldn’t agree more.
Shigeru is definitely a cool person, since he has developed some of the most iconic gaming characters of our time – Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda.
Here’s Time Magazine’s take on the guy:
PRO: As if creating Mario, Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda weren’t enough, the “father of modern video gaming” is still designing franchises for Nintendo and its best-selling Wii console. His latest, Super Mario Galaxy, redefines VG physics once again with its springy re-imagining of that old chestnut, gravity.
CON: Can he reverse gravity for all the obese, video game-playing kids out there? Miyamoto himself has said that the purpose of his Wii Fit game, with its balance board and full-body focus, isn’t to make you fit, but “aware of your body.” Aware enough to go outside before atherosclerosis sets in?

I remember a while ago there were people on various message boards telling everyone to mass vote for him. I wonder if this was the result?
