Japanese Police Offer Money For Info on Illegal Guns

Submitted by Alafista on Friday, 18 April 2008No Comment

Japanese police are stepping up efforts to track down illegal firearms by offering monetary rewards for information leading to confiscation of an illegal gun and the arrest of its owner.

In fact, the police will pay 100,000 yen per gun as the reward. Thats close to 1,000 USD.

To protect the identify of the “snitch”, there will be a toll-free 24 hour hotline that gives informers an ID code so they can remain anonymous.

Unfortunately, the police will not pay rewards if information providers are accomplices. LOL

I wonder if this is another dumb idea or it might really work. I guess all we can do is to wait and see if it really works when the hotline opens on 1st May.
