Japanese Spend Most When Visiting Akiba
According to a recent survey, Japanese spend the most money in Akihabara compared to the other parts of Tokyo, approximately 8,000 yen per visit.

The survey was conducted with 1,298 users from C-News and Yahoo! JP.
Second place went to Ginza, the upscale shopping district which people spend approximately 7,490 yen.
Third went to Aoyama, another entertainment and shopping district for young people.

But, it is important to note, on average, people only spend an average of 8.1 days in Akihabara while 20.5 days were spent in Shinjuku.

Therefore, I think this survey is telling us that people spend the most in Akiba during a single visit. But I guess overall people still spend more on winning and dining.
It also shows that geeky goods such as electronics and figures are way too costly! Its cheaper to wine, dine and shop than spend a day in Akiba. =P

i thought IT stuffs and otaku stuffs like figures and gundams are cheap in akiba? most come with discounts. no?
@ gordon: My guess is that people buy a lot of stuffs at one time when they go akiba, since they probably go there like once a month. But people would visit places like Ginza or Shibuya more frequently or even weekly.
You should take a look at how some of the Japanese buy stuff in Akiba. It’s totally shocking.
