Deadly Stabber A Gaming Otaku?

Yesterday I reported about the deadly stabbing incident outside the shopping mall in Tsuchiura (Ibaraki Prefecture). Well according to news on 2ch, this psychopath who killed 1 and injured 7 others was a gaming otaku.

Deadly Stabber A Gaming Otaku?

He was in fact a runner-up in a national wide gaming competition in Akihabara 5 years ago.

Well looks like the focus of the media will be shifted once again onto otakus. I bet they will soon be talking about how gaming affects typical people and turn them into stabbing psychopaths.

Digg!

Good! Then they will have caught up with America, land of Jack Thompson and that one woman who called Mass Effect a dirty sex romp without actually playing it.

Less sarcastically, my thoughts go out to the victims of this crime, and I hope that the Japanese media doesn’t have a field day with this. I think for people gone crazy like this guy, you can’t blame any one hobby or pastime.

uno, when the media slander the gaming, music or film industry, its not out of hate or misunderstanding. its all about causing a moral panic.

anyway. people who seem to attack the gaming industry are fools, i watched a news report yesterday that had a woman who was complaining about her daughter either always on the phone or on the computer and not interacting with people anymore. EXCUSE ME! SHE IS COMUNICATING WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE!, computers are the OBVIOUS future, why not just use em all the time anyway instead of finding fault in EVERYTHING

@ CCY: Yeah I’m sure any hobby is good for the mind and soul.

    @ Dee: nicely said indeed!
