Soy Sauce Kit Kat

Submitted by Alafista on Sunday, 23 March 20086 Comments

Japanese Kit Kat have always come up with losta innovative flavors. Just last week. Just this week, they introduced a new soy sauce flavor.

I do understand that soy sauce is an important part of Japan’s food culture, but wouldn’t it be weird to combine something that is supposedly  salty with chocolate?

So are you willing to try out this Kit Kat?

Hm? Shows the ignorance of culinary combinations eh? Western cuisine regularly has chocolate meat stews, soups and chocolate caviar combinations. Also, demiglace sauce which is a favourite in Japan has tonnes of cocoa in it.

@ tj han: Good lord, I didn’t know there are so many food cooked with chocolate. I still prefer my chocolate plain and simple pls.

tjhan is absolutely right. French sauces for gamey meats like deer often use a combination of chocolate, red wine and chilli.

When you bake chocolate cakes and brownies, most recipes often call for some salt (or salted butter) to enhance the taste of the chocolate; the soy sauce will do the same and also add an additional dimension of ‘umami’ (the fifth taste besides sour, sweet, bitter, salty).

Chocolate is good! I read somewhere that it improves one’s mood after eating it.

LOL, i love soy sauce and kit kats are ok…. so it must be a good combination, as for salty with sweet, chocolate spread sandwitches with salt and vinegar crisps is the beez neez lol. Just to stray from the convo and talk about sandwitches for a moment, i LOVE tuna with wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce sandwitches, like a sushi sandwitch lol, patent pending =3. i think i mentioned this on an old post lol…sorry if i have alafista. =D

I would definitely try it! I know people who like potato chips with chocolate – that kind of salty/sweet combo is probably what this Kit-kat would be like.
