Anime DVD Sales Growing In Japan

According to the latest statistics from the Japanese Video Association, the Japanese anime industry is doing very well, reaching 58 billion yen (600 million USD) in sales of DVD.

Japan's Anime DVD 2007 Sales Increased 7.3%

This impressive sales figure meant that there is a 7.3% increase in anime DVD sales in comparison to the previous year.

In addition, anime DVD now accounts for more than 1/4 of the total DVD sales in Japan.

This provides some evidence that despite illegal sharing and fansubs, Japan’s anime industry is still doing well.

    Maybe because of exclusive DVD episodes and no censured episode.

    w00t, maybe. hopefully this will catch the interest of the brittish publishing companies and maybe, JUST maybe we might see an increase in anime release in the UK, our anime channel on sky (only broadcasts from 9:30) has rumoured that they might be going 24/7 in the next few years. this is an achievement!

    @ kyouray: That may be a possibility considering the gold sales perfomance of the uncensored DVD of School Days.

    @ Okinawa: I think Gainax made a ton of money from the first Eva 1.0 movie.
