Summary: Seems like Japanese are not so into online gaming. In addition, about 66% of them who play online games only play free games. I’m wondering if language is a major barrier to Japanese playing online games since alot of paid online games such as WoW are in English. I’m also guessing Japanese games prefer then consoles and portable gaming machines more.

I like the Konata picture. I’m going to make a blog header out of it.

Thing is, most of the people playing online games, are playing online games instead of answering a questionnaire.
A pretty big chunk of online games are in their teens. According to the survey, only 2% of the people who answered are in their teens.
In other words, this isn’t exactly representative of the real deal.
If the question: “How often do you play computer games offline?” was asked, then you wouldn’t get a high percentage either.
The title of this post is: “Only 40% of Japanese Play Online Gamesâ€
40% of a whole country is a LOT. (not that the number is close to being correct)
This is a hugely flawed survey. It does not conclude that 40 percent of Japanese play online games, and even if it is true, 40 percent is a huge number seriously.
There are a shit load of confounders here and the sample isn’t randomised. So the only conclusion we can get from this is 40 percent of the users of that website play online games to any sort of extent.
Reckon that is still a lot of people playing online game though…
