The production team has promised introduction of new characters and a new storyline. I can’t wait to see more of Ryomou Shimei in action.

Ryomou Shimei

So I was wondering, who is your most favorite character in Ikkitousen? Mine favorite is Kanu.

I want to say Kan-u too… but I’d feel sorry for Mou-chan, Hakufu and overall Ryofu… so I cannot choose hahaha xD

I’m a bit confused though. Is Ryofu coming back? And if so… how does that work?

First thoughts: First off, don’t think of this as part of the I.T. series. It’s more of a spinoff using the same characters. This series lacks the “tokyo-hipness” of the first one and lacks the heart of Dragon Destiny. The series so far is as aimless as anything Shinichi Watanabe has done (reference Tenchi GxP, Excel Saga) and the constant push-pull between the urge to create a plot, or just make it soft-core porn is jarring.
Since it is Ikki Tousen though, it can still pull out and as of episode 7; it looks like things may be happening to return things to the action/suspense we saw in DD.
I have enjoyed the humor that’s been in it so far, though it’s pretty low denominator. Kanu’s unrequited and, so far, unreturned feelings for Ryubi turn from a joke to a serious plot point. You really feel for her because due to her warrior’s personality, she has no idea how to woo a woman. Especially since they make it clear that Ryubi doesn’t seem to have a lesbian or bi bone in her body.
The whole Ryofu with amnesia thing…been there, seen that, it’s getting old.
Lastly, what’s with Saji going back to the darkside again? Apparently in the manga plotline, he goes as far as to sacrifice his life to give Sonsaku an edge against Sou Sou. Don’t get me wrong, you love to hate the guy; but the amoral drifter thing is too hard to follow.

I don’t know what to think of this series but I’ve come to some conclusions:

    1. Kanu is a bona fide bulldyke, and I don’t mean that in a mean way. She uses the “oro” way of speaking and it’s described as very brash and masculine. You can tell by the way Ryubi and others react to what she says even when it sounds mostly normal.

    2. Make sure you see Dragon Destiny before this, you’ll be totally confused. Second, if you’ve only seen the censored version of the first series and the normal 2nd, then be ready for the TnA quotient to skyrocket.

    3. The first series was off the reservation on some things regarding the comics, and Dragon Destiny tried to be more faithful to the characters and overall storyline but was also trying to end the anime series. So needless to say, this series has no grounding whatsoever in the manga. It does have that “filler” feel to it, and the obvious conflict amongst the creators on whether to go in a pure eye-candy direction, or attempt a plot makes some of the transitions almost painful.

    4. Expanding on #3, it’s painful to watch the writers continually mash the Seito and Nanyo women into panty baring situations that aren’t at all in keeping with any kind of logic. Though it is fun watching how much Kanu gets pussy-blocked by the other cast members in her quest to win Ryubi’s romantic interest.

    5. Spoiler Alert: Ryofu was so boring until she went back to her juvenile lesbian sex-offender ways. It’s yet to be made clear if it’s her old personality doing it or the influence of the girl in the cape.

    6. While the lesbian TnA is interesting, Kanu is all but stalking Ryubi and the pseudo-sexual tension between Ryomou and Ryofu is confusing. It’s just been insulting to girl-girl lovers so far (even mainstream pornography treats lesbians with more respect).
