Happy Neko Day – February 22nd

Did you remember to celebrate Neko Day 「猫の日」 with your cat? Every year, Neko Day falls on the 22nd February in Japan.

Happy Neko Day - February 22nd

Why is 22nd Feb Neko Day? According to Wikipedia JP:

2月22日の「222」が猫の鳴き声「ニャン・ニャン・ニャン」と読めることから。
February 22nd has similar pronunciations to “nyan, nyan, nyan”, which is the sound of cat meowing.

Therefore, 22nd Feburary has been commissioned as Neko Day.

Asahi news also reported an art gallery in Fukuoka whereby 32 Japanese sculptors showcased their 10,000 pieces of cat sculptures.

Seems like Japanese really love their cats. So, are you a cat person or a dog person?

    How is it similar? The only ways I know how to pronounce it is “nigatsu nijuu nichi” Or the number two hundred twenty-two is “nihyaku nijuu ni”. The three ni’s are there, but… three nyan’s?

    Am I missing a particular fact? ^^;
