Laputa Art Auctioned for 6 Million Yen

Would you buy a set of a set of drawings Miyazaki Hayao for 6 million yen? Well someone did pay that amount of money for a set of original layout and background art for Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ) in an auction from Mandarake.

Laputa

Apparently it is a large layout drawing for scene cut 1257 which is the scene where Laputa is shown,

While works by Miyazaki Hayao have always sold for such huge amounts, this bid was a lot more than the usual, by roughly 6 times more! For instance, previous auctions such as Totoro cell art only sold for 1.5 million yen, and Kiki’s delivery service cell art also was auctioned for only 701,100 yen.

Would you ever spend good money on really rare anime collectibles? I think I would though I’m pretty sure I dun have 6 million yen in my bank account yet. (>_<)┌
