Electric Eel Power Xmas Lights in Japan

Submitted by Alafista on Wednesday, 5 December 2007No Comment

Think you have seen all the weird Christmas tree in the world? In Kakamigahara, Gifu in Japan, there actually a Christmas tree whereby its lights is powered by an electric eel!

Each time the electric eel at the Aqua Toto Gifu aquarium touches a copper wire in its tank, it sends power that lights up globes decking a Christmas tree.

Officials expect the “eel Christmas tree” to be a popular attraction for dating couples in the lead-up to Christmas Day, when the tree will be removed.

This is so cool, maybe soon researchers will decide to use eels as an alternative source of energy to fossil fuel.
